On October 10, 2011, the French Data Protection Authority (the “CNIL”) released a video of newly-elected Chairwoman Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin presenting her priorities and vision for the future of the CNIL. Ms. Falque-Pierrotin was elected as the new Chair of the CNIL on September 21, 2011.

In the video, Ms. Falque-Pierrotin emphasizes that the CNIL has to adapt to the new digital environment by innovating and by improving cooperation with the private sector to find new ways of achieving mutual understanding. She also notes that the CNIL must consider the international nature of data privacy, and highlights that the revision of the EU privacy framework will offer Europe the opportunity to demonstrate that it is able to provide a competitive and modernized framework for the protection of personal data in a digital environment.
